I posted this today for a couple of reasons. One, it is a perfect illustration of how words, while important, aren’t all powerful. Two, actions in conjunctions with words are.
In my mind, if while saying sorry the imaginary person had also bent to pick up the pieces and began fixing it, that would have been the right thing to do.
No, the piece once broken will never be exactly the same. That doesn’t mean it won’t be beautiful, usable, and worth the effort.
A lot of our culture lives and dies by the thinking that once broken you throw it away. Some things are broken beyond repair, and it is completely appropriate to do just that. More things are fixable.
Just some food for thought…
